Sunday Things: It’s cold and it’s rainy; I’m thinking of you

Your Voice Is a Scarf
By Annette Marie Hyder

Your voice is a scarf
I want to wrap myself in,
silkily soft but tasseled
with nubby knots on the ends
that tickle my neck and decolletage
and your arms are an umbrella
I stand under not to be out of the rain
but to press up against the refuge of you.
Your arms are the kind of umbrella
that’s black on the outside
but when they are opened
there is the sky painted blue.
