Thieves broke the window of heaven
By Annette Marie Hyder
into a million little jagged pieces of ice
that are falling still in the aftermath
as we all look for the culprit
who made off with Spring
and let the cold swirl back down on us
with falling pieces of window glass
tumbling from the sky.
Too bad Spring couldn’t have been
like the singing harp in Jack In the Beanstalk
and given the alert that all was not well —
trilled out in her golden voice, “Stop thief!
Put me down! Heeeeeelp!”
