The Moon Is a Key That Tumbles the Locks
By Annette Marie Hyder

The moon is a key that tumbles the locks
of the most tumultuous seas
but it’s also a floating prison on the waves of the sky
filled with the hearts that could not break free
from the last chatelaine of unwary.

You can hear the hearts rattle the bars
of their ivory tower. You can feel their beat on the breeze.
Yet that same pale jail fits in the palm of my hand
when it hangs from the ribbon
of you being here with me.
